Beddgelert is a small village in Snowdonia, where three valleys meet. Modern research has shown that the link between Llewelyn the Great's dog Gelert and the village, was in fact a 18th century fabrication by the innkeeper. However you can still visit the legendary Gelerts "grave", and there are a number of good local walks, including a forest trail and a track along the track of the former Welsh Highland Railway
The National Trust own this 17th-century cottage in the village, which has an exhibition about the area's history and wildlife
Open 1 April to 1 Nov: daily 11 to 5
