On the island of Anglesey, near that town with the "long name", Plas Newydd is an elegant 18th century house, built by James Wyatt. The style of the house is a blend of classical with mock Gothic, and all around there are stunning views over Anglesey and over Snowdonia beyond
The house is associated Whistler, whose largest wallpainting hangs here. There is also an exhibition about his work.
The interior of the house was re-styled in the 1930s,
As well as the house, one can visit the military museum containing army relics of the 1st Marquess of Anglesey. Outside there is a garden, with colour in spring follwed by massed hydrangeas and autumn colour. Further on a woodland walk takes you through to a marine walk along the Menai Strait
