The Romans did get here, and this was a Roman military settlement, just on the outskirts of modern Caernarfon
The National Trust own the Roman fort, built to defend this corner of the Roman Empire against rebellious Welsh tribes.
Edward I's castle builders later removed most of the stone from the Roman fort to build Caernarfon Castle, also designed to keep the native Welsh in check
There is a National Trust museum on the site containing Roman relics found there
