Salmon
Atlantic salmon (salmo salar) of more than 40 lb have been caught in Wales in recent years. However the runs of large spring fish have greatly declined - as they have in all countries bordering the North Atlantic. The autumn migration into Welsh rivers remains substantial, when you can see the salmon leap obstructions on the rivers
Grayling
Grayling spawn in late spring, and on the Rivers Dee and Wye they grown to more
than three pounds
Lamprey
Lampreys swim up river from the sea when ready to spawn. They look rather like
eels, but instead of biting jaws they have powerful suckers with rasp-like teeth.
Trout
The best times for trout fishing are mid March to late June and mid August until
the season closes at the end of September.. Fishing with a dry fly is challenging
as the fish will rarely allow you a second chance if you startle them
Sea Trout
Each year the Teifi produces a few sea trout of between 12 and 15 pounds.
The main run of fish - typically between a pound and five pounds - enter
the river between June and August, with a few larger fish joining the autumn
salmon shoals as the season draws to a close in mid October.
